eVoter offers all Candidates for Races Statewide – Daily Herald

New eVoter.com Offers All Candidates For Races Statewide

By Anna Marie Kukec | Daily Herald Columnist

A nonpartisan Web site focuses on the Feb. 2 Primary in Illinois, offering voters a complete list of candidates statewide - from major offices to neighborhood positions - along with candidate information, endorsements and volunteer information.

It's one of the latest Web sites designed to give voters more information. Dailyherald.com soon will launch an online guide to all races important to suburban voters, including candidates' unfiltered statements on a number of important issues.

The Miami-based eVoter.com intends to cover more states by late 2010. The site now has all races throughout Illinois for federal, state and local candidates and links them with voters and endorsing groups.

All 7,147 candidates are searchable in various ways, including office, name or ballot. But only the candidates with profiles are interactive, said Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies LLC, owners and operators of eVoter.com.

"It's like a dating site because candidates pay a fee and they have to make an effort to fill out the information," Kravitz said. Candidates and endorsing groups pay a fee, while the site is free to voters.

Friends and family helped Kravitz invest in eVoter.com, since he had Web experience for more than five years as a director at jDate.com for Jewish singles. Since then, Kravitz aimed to do another Web site and focused on voters.

If you're a voter, you can go to the Web site, type in your address, and see a map with your location and polling place. You then can review a list of ballots for Republican, Democrat and other party candidates for your area. You also could access absentee ballot forms or generate and print a customized list to take with you inside the polling booth.

The site, which provides updates on Twitter and Facebook, also offers you a link to donate or volunteer for a campaign. It also allows candidates to send direct messages to voters and link to videos or Web sites, such as YouTube, Kravitz said.
