eVoter Now Offers Online Access to Absentee Ballot Applications in Illinois
Saturday, December 26, 2009
CHICAGO, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- eVoter (www.evoter.com), the first online destination where candidates, voters and endorsing organizations can make direct connections, has launched its absentee ballot function for Illinois voters.
"eVoter changes the way voters access election information and allows them to fulfill all of their election needs in one place," said Adam Kravitz, CEO of Political Technologies LLC, owners and operators of eVoter. "This feature allows any registered voter to access an absentee ballot application easily, and provides the information on where and how to submit the application to local election authorities."
According to a new Illinois law, any registered voter in the state can request a ballot by mail including college students, military personnel and those living overseas. It is no longer necessary to present a reason for requesting an absentee ballot.
Voters must submit their application between December 24 and January 28 in order to receive their ballot by mail for the primary election. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than February 1 for acceptance by the Clerk's office.
"Many election authorities in Illinois don't have the resources to have an online presence," said Philip Muller, Political Technologies' president. "eVoter offers absentee voters in those counties a quick and easy way to download an absentee ballot request form and mail it in. At the same time, they can find out who is running for office in their area."
eVoter, which was launched in November, also allows voters to locate their polling place, generate and print a customized ballot, and donate to campaigns. In addition to the voter tools, candidates can purchase and customize an online profile, and endorsing organizations can widely publicize their candidate endorsements for a low cost.
Illinois, which has the nation's first primary election in 2010, is the first state where eVoter is available. Political Technologies plans to provide the service in more than a half-dozen states by the 2010 general election and all 50 states by 2012.
To download an absentee ballot on eVoter, voters can visit http://www.evoter.com/absentee-ballot-applications or call (866) 976-0555.
