CANDIDATE STATEMENT

I am seeking re-election to a four year term for SPU School Board, because the work of steering the District through the rough financial times affecting our State and Nation is not complete. We've been fortunate these last three years to avoid serious cuts in services and staff by making prudent decisions, emphasizing changes that don't touch the classroom.

My goal is to preserve the excellent educational experiences our two sons received at San Pasqual, a base upon which each of them has built considerably. Our oldest son is a sophomore at UC Berkeley, and our youngest a senior at Orange Glen, already guaranteed acceptance to five UC Campuses based on his academic performance.

I am a native Californian, a thirteen year resident of the San Pasqual Valley, and my wife Theresa and I have made North San Diego County our home since 1985. We love the Valley, and want to see our school remain a prized centerpiece within it. When the fiscal storm passes, we want to strive to augment the curriculum, and enhance our schools offerings in science, language, the arts and athletics. We're losing one long time board member already, so we need to keep solid expertise in place.

My work as an attorney for "special districts" in Southern California has given me expertise in a variety of legal areas, including the Open Meeting laws, public contracting and human resources, and other areas which impact school operations. This expertise is distinct from that available from the balance of the Board, and is a skill set which I can bring to bear for the benefit of the District. I ask for your continued support and for your vote on November 2, 2010.
