CANDIDATE STATEMENT
Welcome to my page! As a 25-year public servant and as a candidate for State Treasurer I am dedicated to working hard to make a positive difference in the lives of Illinois citizens.
I first came to this state to attend Bradley University where I earned degrees in psychology and counseling. I then worked at a clinic in Peoria giving financial counseling to working families that were hit hard by a changing economy and a stifling labor conflict. From there I moved to Matteson, and served as Director of Community Affairs for the village.
In 2002, through a hard-fought campaign against a 10-year incumbent, I was elected to serve the south suburbs as State Representative for the 38th district. In the General Assembly I sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills protecting victims of consumer fraud, supporting economic development, and improving mass transit.
While serving my third term as State Representative I was asked to join the Treasurer's Office as Chief of Staff. Since taking on the position I have used my experience to make the office more efficient and effective.
As State Treasurer, I will continue to devote time and energy to making the Treasurer’s Office a powerful resource for the people of Illinois—ensuring government transparency and accountability, wisely investing taxpayers’ money, providing resources that empower families to secure their economic future, and safeguarding Illinois’ tax dollars.
